ETCA Admin2 | May 12, 2026 |

World Tai Chi Day was celebrated with members of the Academy performing an 11 o’clock set at Maldon Prom Park, Holland-on-Sea seafront and Birchanger on a bright but slightly cool day.  Phil from Colchester managed a set even though he was away. All events were well attended as the pictures below show.

2025 AGM and Chinese New Year

ETCA Admin2 | February 10, 2025 |

This years AGM and Chinese New Year celebrations (a few days early) were held at Wickham Bishops village hall with just over 100 members attending.

Following registration and a chance to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones we sat down for the formal AGM.  Last year’s minutes were read out and accepted by those members present. The Chair, Lisa and Vice Chair, Judy both provided reports on the status of the Academy and events that had taken place over 2024. These were followed by a presentation of the Accounts by Martin. The accounts were accepted by those members present. Lisa, Judy, Martin and Minutes Secretary Cait were all re-elected for another year. There followed a short Q & A session.  Following completion of the AGM tea and cake were available, many thanks to those members that brought the cakes.

Before the Lion Dancers arrived to entertain us there was a session for all of us to go through some of the foundation exercises. Then two Chinese lions performed very energetic and entertaining dances for us and collected money for charity. Following the dancers we all sat down for a Chinese meal from Lians.

After lunch was cleared away two Tai Chi sets were performed. Members also demonstrated other tai chi forms that we practice sword, sabre and Lok Hup to the end the day.

Many thanks must go to the members of the Academy that made it happen.

World Tai Chi Day 2024

ETCA Admin2 | April 29, 2024 |

In spite of the overcast, damp ,cold weather, over 30 of us met a Maldon Promenade Park to perform a set at 10.00 a.m. for World Tai Chi Day. Although the ground was somewhat uneven in places we completed the set without any mishaps, just some shuffling of feet. The forecast rain showers held off.  Afterwards a number of us went for coffee or in my case hot chocolate.

The Birchanger class, pictured, who were unable to join us at Maldon performed a set locally.
